  • A Child-Centered Surrogacy Program

After 25 years of successfully growing thousands of families through adoption, American Adoptions has now expanded into another exciting opportunity:surrogacy!

While American Surrogacy LLC is a completely separate organization from American Adoptions, it was founded upon many of the same principles as our adoption agency: support, education, care and communication, and always with the child’s best interest at the forefront of everything we do.

If you are looking for a surrogacy agency, please read on to learn more about surrogacy, the differences between surrogacy and adoption, and how American Surrogacy can help you add to your family through assisted-reproductive technologies.

    What is Surrogacy?

Surrogacy is an arranged pregnancy using a surrogate mother and any combination of the intended parents’ or a donor’s genetic materials. An embryo is created via in vitro fertilization, which is then transferred to the surrogate mother.

American Surrogacy specializes in gestational surrogacy, meaning the surrogate mother’s egg isn’t used and thus is never the biological mother of the child.

How Does the Surrogacy Process Work?

While there are many similarities between the adoption and surrogacy processes, there are of course some key differences.

First, both prospective intended parents and surrogate mothers must each pass their own extensive screening processes. American Surrogacy requires intended parents to pass criminal and child abuse background checks, and to complete an in-home assessment to help ensure they are indeed prepared for surrogacy and parenthood. Prospective surrogate mothers must also pass an in-home assessment, as well as multiple background checks, a psychological screening, a medical screening, and American Surrogacy’s own screening process.

The next step is finding a surrogate mother. American Surrogacy will help you create your Intended Parent Profile and will show it to our waiting surrogate mothers, who’ve already been approved and entered into our program. If a surrogate mother shows interest in your family, we will present you with her profile to see if interest is reciprocated. Once approved by each party, a match is made and the legal process of drafting contracts will begin.

After the contracts are signed, the medical process will begin soon afterwards. The surrogate mother will be given fertility hormones to prepare herself for pregnancy and to synchronize the intended mother or donor’s fertility cycles. When the time comes, the intended mother or donor’s egg will be fertilized by the intended father or donor’s sperm to create an embryo, which will generally incubate for 2-5 days until transferred to the surrogate mother.

During this process, a pre-birth order will have already been drafted by the intended parents’ attorney and approved by the court. The pre-birth order will establish legal parentage of the child, allowing the intended parents to make medical and insurance decisions and directs the state’s vital records department to include their names on the birth certificate.

Just as with adoption, our team of surrogacy specialists are directly involved in every step of the surrogate process, providing proactive support and guidance to ensure the most successful experience possible.

    How Much Does Surrogacy Cost?

The cost of surrogacy can vary greatly, depending on the number of embryo transfers required, the experience of the surrogate mother, and many other factors. While it’s difficult to provide a range, the cost of surrogacy is usually at least double the cost of a domestic infant adoption. Please contact us for more information on surrogacy costs.

How Does Surrogacy Differ from Adoption?

There are countless differences (and similarities) between surrogacy and adoption, but the most important differences for people considering surrogacy to understand include:

    • the pregnancy is planned rather than unplanned
    • one or both intended parents may be the biological parents of their child
    • the surrogate mother is not related to the child
    • surrogate mothers are compensated with moneys to spend how they wish
    • intended parents play a role in choosing their surrogate mother
    • contracts determine how the intended parent-surrogate mother relationship will work prior to the embryo transfer process

    Why Choose American Surrogacy?

During the 25 years of completing families through adoption, we’ve strived to continue to improve the adoption process for both adoptive families and birth parents alike. American Surrogacy has adopted many of the services that have led to American Adoptions’ success, including:

Surrogate Outreach Program – American Surrogacy works with a wide variety of gestational surrogates because we:

    • advertise nationally through traditional and digital avenues
    • network with various attorneys, fertility clinics and social workers across the country
    • offer various services to surrogates that are exclusive to American Surrogacy
    • are often contacted by prospective surrogates through American Adoptions

One-Time Match Fee – In the event of a failed pregnancy or surrogacy, most surrogacy professionals require the intended parents to pay a fee to find a new match with a surrogate mother – but not at American Surrogacy. Our intended parents pay a one-time matching fee that remains until a successfully pregnancy occurs, regardless of how many attempts and how many surrogate mothers are needed.

Unrivaled Support – Your surrogacy specialist will be directly involved throughout each step of the surrogacy process by helping you decide if surrogacy is right for your family, finding surrogates who best match you preferences and goals, setting up and overseeing egg, sperm and embryo donors, and facilitating contact between you and the surrogate mother to ensure a perfect match.

Extensive Pre-Screening – From psychological screenings, to in-home visits, to medical evaluations with a reproductive endocrinologist, our screening process ensures the women we work with are physically, medically and emotionally prepared for surrogacy, unlike many who are found overseas or independently of a surrogacy professional.

Licensed, Qualified Legal Counsel – American Surrogacy partners with a vast network of attorneys across the county who specialist in assisted reproductive technologies, many of whom are members of the American Academy of Reproductive Technology Attorneys (AAARTA). Both you and your surrogate mother will be provided with your own attorney, who is abreast on the laws of the state in which your surrogacy occurs, will ensure you understand the language in the contracts before signing, and will be your legal counsel throughout this process.

“American Surrogacy has created a program that is forward thinking, child-focused, caring and compassionate. Their acceptance of all kinds of loving families and their support of ongoing relationships between the parties truly embodies the best interest of the child”

    - Sharon Roszia, respected adoption professional of 50 years and a recipient of US Congress’ Angel in Adoption Award.
